Magic/Occupations

Sungaea is replete in elemental magics and many are born with the ability to learn said magics or develop the ability later on. An apprentice mage must travel with a full fledged mage as a mentor for three years and undergo a test at the end of that time before practicing as a mage. Sungaean mages can control the aspects of their element, snow, sea, rain for water, etc. They can bless a place to coax more of an element out or curse it to restrict the flow (this is forbidden.) Elemental mages are usually needed in the area not flourished in their particular magic. Earth mages, for example, are needed in the Fire and Wind places especially to coax enough food and other growing things from the earth, however, the potential for their magic is strongest in their own area. Each mage is blessed with different ways of using their elemental gifts.
Other Occupations important in Sungaea:
Traders: These are rich and welcomed in anyplace, particularly Trades Town and on travels between the Elemental Lands. Traders brave enough to attempt Emberia, for instance, often come back with a small fortune.. or don't come back. Traders may travel in a caravan, by magical ship (though these are difficult to navigate away from Windaria) and other land and sea variations of travel. They trade in foodstuffs, jewlery, clothing, anything the inhabitants of the lands want.
Mercenaries: Of the personal or soldierly type. Another kind of wanderer, but this one on commission to obtain an item, a person, or to fight a personal matter or larger battle for someone else. Many choose to live in the cities and settlements..not everyone wants to venture into the world.
Pirates: In Windaria and Aquacia, Pirates of the Air and Sea function with magic to back up their raids. Authorities try to suppress them with little success at times
Tradesmen/Craftsman: Creating magic-infused weapons, personal house items and other things comprises a very important part of society. Market days in towns and cities are always bustling.
Masters/Slaves: Sadly, due to human influence, the institution of slavery continued after humankind collapsed. Furres were used to the dominance/submissive nature of it and often take personal slaves after defeating them in a fight or else buy them from a dark establishment. They are usually kept in check with magic brands bindng them to their owners.
Many other occupations are possible--teacher, artist or writer, soldier, establishment owner-- almost anything in a fantasy world one can imagine and some members of the upper classes do not have an occupation, per se, but pursue a 'noble life.'
