Songs (open)

The air of the Inn was smokey, dimming the candle light that shined at each table, and the fire that sat roaring in the hearth. Shadows were cast along the walls, Shadi loved this kind of enviroment, it felt safe, the idea that anything anyone saw could be condisider a trick of the light or too much ale. The young bard sat near the fire playing his lyre, a soft ballad slipping from his lips as the patrons of the bar listened, some silently, while others cheered and drank.
For once Shadi did not wear his cloak, the shadows keeping him from being fully seen. The fire made his cream colored shirt glow with the warm light, his tan skin turning gold where the shadows didn't hide. Beside him on a small table sat his satchel and a plate of half-eaten food, and a cup of ale that was untouched by his lips. The sound of coins hitting the floor at his feet made his lips curve in a small smile, 'Good night tonight...' He thought as his stong finished.
He put his instrument away and began to pick up the coins when he felt someone roughly grab him. A drunk dog man pressed against him, his breath foul with ale as fumbling hands held him, "Aren't you just a pretty little kitty...how about a little fun...I'll pay you handsomely." He grinned, the sharped-tooth smile making Shadi draw back.
"I'm sorry sir, but I think I cannot except your offer..." The grip on his shoulder tighten.
"I'm a rich man boy...do as I say and maybe I'll make you my pet..." Shadi flinched, fear rising up within him as the other drew closer.

A light commotion by the fireside startled the beady glimmer of blue-green eyes beneath a shadow's fall of indigo tresses, deepening the smirk about grey lips pressed to a glass of hot brandy. Mikhail Nicolae hunched over the bar, his muscled form hidden beneath the swaths of a fine deep-blue coat, its silvered trim catching edges of firelight. He lowered the hot shot glass and cupped it in his calloused palm, lowered one ear, and glanced over for a better look.
"Aha," said the barkeep, a very old, feral-looking feline with yellowed teeth. "It looks like that canine is about to get some pussy." He guffawed at his own joke while mixing a golden vodka and Mikhail snickered a bit, though his eyes never left the two creatures across the room. What does that guy think he is? He deepened the creases beneath the sharp fall of indigo bangs and swirled a finger around in his drink. This ain't the slavery markets for one.. then again, a pretty little guy like that should have some protection.
"Hey wait a minute, was he the one singing a second ago?" The grey feline shook his head with a derisive snort. "Think bards are dime a dozen? We'll scare 'em all of at this rate, though I guess some people consider this better entertainment." A group of people cast surreptitious looks at the soliciting canine and most looked interested, a few discomfited--Mikhail felt a bit of both. Violence intrigued him, but not rape--and it looked like the feline had that coming.
"They want entertainment.." Mikhail smirked, tossed a coin onto the bar and strode over with a rough, quick grace, eclipsing the space between them in a few steps. He tapped the canine on the shoulder. I'll give 'em something to watch.
He punched the canine full in the face.

"Please, let me go..." Shadi began to struggle a bit in the canine's grasp, which only seemed to dig deeper into his slender arms. He gasped in pain, the other just grinning wider.
"Be a nice little kitty, you'd like company for the night...keep that little body of yours warm-" The dog was cut off when someone behind him tapped his shoulder. Turning he growled that his attention was being taken away from the little cat-boy.
Shadi continued to struggle until he felt the grip on his arms loosen, the dog-man falling away, hitting the floor with a loud crash. The neko-jin quickly darted away into a shadowy corner, watching the stranger who had saved him with large, round, amber eyes, tears held back behind them. The drunk canine slowly picked himself up, stumbling towards the one who had hit him, "You bastard!" He growled, teeth bared, blood pouring from his long nose, "You think you can muscle in on my meat?" He made a clumsy swipt at the cat.

Mikhael sneered and dodged the clumsy blow, jerking back as the swipe passed right by his stomach. The folds of his cloak whirled at his feet and his lips twisted their sneer to a mocking expression. "Heh! I don't want your f*cking meat, thanks. Thought I could get a real fight out of you, but I guessed wrong. Big muscles don't mean anything eh?" He lunged forward and thrust his right elbow into the canine's stomach.
The little feline dashed into the corner and stared out with tear-swollen amber eyes. Eh, he's a pretty little thing. I see why the dog wanted to tumble him. Wouldn't mind a night with him myself, but I guess him as one of those terrified virginal little things. Mikhail lowered his darker-tipped ears over his head and snarled at the dog. He tossed back his indigo coat to reveal his street-toughened muscled form beneath a thin undershirt.
"Got anything else?" Strands of deep blue played about Mikhail's glimmering devilish eyes, colorful pits on his dim-colored frame. "If not, I suggest hitting the road.. not sure who runs this place, but I bet they don't like patrons molesting their bards."

The canine grunted as he was beaten down by the feline. He finally stood and ran out of the inn, finding the bard not worth his time anymore. "Fine 'ave him if you like him." He growled as he exited. He looked back once at Shadi and gave him a toothy grin, "Can't guard the little pussycat forever..."
Shadi felt a wave of dizziness was over him, as the dog-man left. He fell to his knees shivering, not from the cold, but from what had almost just happened. He looked up at the gray feline, "T-Thank you very much..." he whispered, his heart still racing, heading spinning, the feeling like he was going to faint becoming stronger.

Some fight.. I'm sure he'll get a willing street whore soon enough.
The rough grey street-cat flipped his indigo coat over his muscled arms and slipped their scar-accented fur through the silky sleeves again, concealing his body in a whorl of fine cloth. He turned to the scared little cat huddling in the corner and knelt, sneer still affixed to his fine, carework features, blue-green eyes glowing cyan beneath his long, unkempt bangs. "Hey, you all right down there? Didn't think he'd time to hurt you before I got here.."
"Er, and you're welcome--" He accepted the gratitude with an awkward shrug, unused to heroism despite saving people all the time. He figured the amount of hurt he caused negated anything 'good' he could possibly do. "Hm, you don't look too great." He picked up the smaller cat and slung him over his shoulder, picked his room key from his pocket and headed out of the main area. He unlocked the door, shoved it open with a shoulder, and laid the other male down on the plain serviceable bed.
"Here, drink this." He poured him half a brandy from the bedside table and handed it to him in a clear glass.

When the larger cat picked him up Shadi began to struggle, scared about what the other would do to him as he was carried out of the pub area. The other's in the inn just grinned and made lewd gestures as the two left, the small bard paled even more.
When they entered the small room and the stranger set him down on the bed the young neko-jin curled up into a little ball shivering. He squeezed his eyes shut as the other approached but opened them again when he felt something glass-like and smooth get pressed into his hands. For a moment he looked at the amber liquid before drank it down in one large gulp.
His face twisted in a grimace as a strong warmth spread across his throat, chest, and stomach, his cheeks turning a rosy color as the warmth continued to bloom. Shadi began to cough, not use to such a strong drink. Already he could feel the alcohol setting into his system, the tension of the previous event already slipping away...

Mikhail dropped both hands to his hips, bunching the silken navy cloth in exasperation at the smaller creature's terror. "Hey, think I'm going to hurt ya after causing all that scene outside? Not going to lie, I like hurting people, but not like that--" The grey feline shucked the deep-blue coat, scrabbled with the neck-fastening and dropped it aside in a liquid pile to the floor. His muscular, dangerous body bore many scars in the better light and pretty-looking hands with heavily calloused palms. "There, feel better now?" Rough finger-tips stroked the other's cheeks in calming, soothing motions after he downed the whole glass. Took it pretty fast and I'll bet he's not a drinker either.
"Shh--must've been scary," he said, fingers shifting into the boy's silky hair and working through it, circling his scalp. "I know it's happened to me plenty of times--all the way that is, so much I've lost count. You'd better start learning to protect yourself or all those dicks'll be out for you, if you get my drift." He tugged the smaller creature into his lap and grasped the larger water bottle left in each room of the inn. "Here ya go--I bet you didn't take the liquor so well."
He's tempting and probably malleable with that drink in him.. I could seduce him easy.. The thought left a bad taste in his mouth though, because of the would-be rapist moreso than anything else, but he wanted a kiss from those delicate little lips and brushed one against his forehead instead. "Want I should leave? It's probably better."

Shadi relaxed more under the gentle touch of the other, he sighed, forgetting about the fact that his hood was not up, and that the light of the room provided no shadows to hide in. He nodded when the other asked if he was better, in truth he did feel much better, his vision seemed a bit hazy, his body no longer as tense as it was before.
The feel of fingers in his hair made him purr softly, no one except for his brother had ever been so gentle, not even his mother would touch him when he was little unless it was to feed him or give him baths, but as soon as Shadi was old enough she had stopped. He missed such closeness.
When he felt himself pulled into the other's lap he stiffened for a moment, ready to run, before he realized that the other meant no harm, "I'm sorry...I should not be so rude as to think you like that dog...I thank you sir." He murmured, his voice a bit wobbily, "I froze...I didn't know what to do...I can handle myself usually, but I...he...he scared me. Who knows what kind of things he wanted..." His ears pressed flat against his head when he thought about what had almost happened. The young man took a sip from the bottle the older one handed him, the cool liquid washing away some of the brandy's effect.
"You're right..." Shadi admitted embrassed, feeling younger than his nineteen years, "I've never actually had liquor before, just watered down wine or ale..." When the gray cat kissed his forehead, a bright crimson blush stained his pale cheeks. Quickly, he ducked his head to hide the blush, but it quickly shot back up when the other asked if he should leave, "Please don't..." The memory of the canines threat pushed to the front of his mind, "Stay...don't leave me alone. Not yet. I can pay you to keep me company, I have the money, or if you rather I could sing for you and keep you entertained for the time, but please don't leave. You don't even know me but you saved me...it's the least I could do for you."

You don't even know me but you saved me..
Mikhail's dark-tipped ears raised high in surprise, illuminating the missing chip in the meagre room light. Where had he heard that before? Aodha whispered a cruel, hard little voice at the back of his mind. Amaera. The feline nibbled hard on his bottom lip as the malicious voice--his twisted version of a conscience--continued its railing. And what it chimed, happened to them..?
"Are ya sure?" Mikhail brushed a few strands of indigo out of his face and scooted away from Shadi, uneasy at the desires and guilts swilling like fire in his system. Nothing of his upset showed on his face--a grey wall against his own emotions. "Look--I can see it in your eyes, you want to make me your hero. Look deeper.. I'm not.. if you want to play for me, go ahead, but don't.. think I'm worth enough for your money or that I'm the best person to stay with you."
Why does everyone want to heroise me? Suimitsu--over nothin' too, and all these people who look at me so cheerful and swallowed up in awe, and then they run off.. or I run them off.. Mikhail whipped out his flask, a silvery guard against bottled tears, and swallowed three hard sips of his brandy/whiskey mix. I haven't seen any of them he thought, pain dulled to a manageable bitterness. Su's got another life, Aodha's gone, Amaera's dead so.. what does being a hero get you? Better to be a villain, eh..

"Of course I'm sure..." Shadi said in a soft voice, "I don't care if you're not a good guy, you helped me, and right now I just don't want to be alone...so please don't leave, I'll pay you any thing you want..." The strands of black hair fell down in front of amber eyes, the soft light making them glow slightly.
He looked away, a small frown curving his lips as he gazed out a small window near the bed, drawing his knees up to his chest. "What's you're name sir...if I may ask?" The young car asked, eyes looking over the gray feline, obviously he was strong, and he was a fighter, the scars a clear sign of that unlike his own which was a scar of his own curse. Curiosity gripped him suddenly and he reached out, his fingers brushing over the scars that marred the other's arms.

The simple explanation cut through Mikhail's webs of hesitance and guilt--he sighed, relaxed his shoulder muscles and gathered the little neko boy into his rough embrace again. "All right-- not sure you're right for trusting me, but I'll stay if you want. No where else to go right now anyway." He tipped back the flask held loosely in his finger-tips and savored the brandy as it burned deep into his stomach.
A shudder gripped him as Shadi caressed the scars covering his grey-furred arms. "Eh--you like those?" Heat gathered in his chest and groin at the soft touches and he moaned under his breath. "Mm.. maybe you ought to start playing for me.." Or else seduction's gonna be next on the menu for tonight. Does he know how irresistable he is?

A small smile curved the neko's lips as the other embraced him, a small shiver passing through his slender frame, contact being so rare, the feel of fur against his own skin odd, but not in a bad way. "You still have not told me your name..." Curiosity still strong behind his eyes, he wanted to know more about his mysterious rescurer.
His fingers traced each scar they passed over, "There's so many...you've been hurt so many times..." He murmured as he stroked the gray fur that surrounded one of the larger scars, not realizing the effect he was having on the older feline. Suddenly the other asked him to play, Shadi nodded and slipped off of the bed, straighting out his tan poet's shirt before he went searching in his satchel for his instrument. Pulling it out, he sat down on the sill of one of the windows, "What sort of song would you like to hear me play?"

Mikhail bit back a moan at the delicate traceries of the boy's fingers--they slid like liquid, heated silk over the soft raised scars along his arms, sensation heightened by the alcohol heating his stomach. I want him, god damnit, and he'd be so disgusted if he knew.. like a pretty mirage turned right to sand. He breathed a sigh as Shadi moved away, straightened his shirt over his delicate form and asked, in that luring soft voice, what song he would like to hear.
"Hey, play anything you like-- something silly, maybe, or happy? You seem down..figure it'll pick you up some." The grey cat drew the silken bedsheets over his legs and his tail wavered in the air, sliding back and forth of its own accord, patterns rippling in the dim light. His cyan eyes glowed like stars in that fierce, once delicate face.

"Alright then...something happy..." Shadi pondered his options for a moment, many of the songs he knew were sad or epics. Strumming softly he began to pluck a quick little beat and began to sing a song of a Bird who wanted to be a Fish and the many trials he faced. It was a song he had learned from another bard he had shared a meal with once, it made him smile because in the end the Bird found a way to be like a fish.
It gave him hope that one day he could be like the other purebloods. The music slowed as he reached the end, the last chord brightly echoing in the room before fading away. The small smile Shadi had grew slightly as he finished singing, setting down the instrument. The young cat glanced at the other feline, watching his reaction.
